Madeira fruit bowl
Inspired by my namesake David Drew, I have been developing and improving my techniques in the traditional English style of basket making for over ten years. The more strenuous nature of the methods involved in the construction of the base and subsequent inherent strength, result in a far sturdier willow basket than those produced by our continental cousins.
Their simple integrity and the fact that, more often than not, newcomers to the craft adopt the continental style of basket making, coupled with the huge influx of imported willow baskets has led me to focus on the traditional English methods.
In addition to my stock baskets I can also offer an exclusive, bespoke basket making service. This has proven very popular for some of my more discerning clients, requiring a basket of quite specific dimensions to fit a particular space in their home, or reproducing an old favourite which has come to the end of its serviceable life.
All the willow used in the making of my baskets is grown in England, the majority of which is supplied by Musgrove Willows based in Westenzoyland, Somerset.
